Overview
Seafood Sectors
Sustainability is a core issue for suppliers addressing market expectations and maintaining assured supply. As the importance and range of activities has grown, it has become increasingly difficult for the leadership of responsible companies to keep abreast of the issues.
Consequently, and complimentary to FishSource / Sustainable Seafood Metrics, SFP pursues a strategy of forming alliances of engaged suppliers in principal seafood sectors – to date:
- Small Pelagics
- Tuna
- Whitefish
- Shrimp
- Salmon
SFP’s Seafood Sectors project is structured around annual informal roundtables, ad hoc working groups and online access to summary information and commissioned reports. Participating companies provide presentations.
Roundtables are an informal forum in which leaders can gain a rapid overview of environmental issues, and undertake an open and frank exchange of experiences and recommendations on improvement projects, educating customers, and other aspects of supplying sustainable seafood.
The meetings follow SFP’s Fishery and Aquaculture Improvement Project practices: participants are free to use the information discussed, but no information or quotes can be attributed to a particular speaker or company. A short summary of the meetings is prepared for public disclosure, including the names of participating companies. The public summary is circulated to participants for approval prior to release.
