Russia Director, Fisheries Improvement Partnership (FIP)
The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) works with leading buyers and producers of seafood to improve fisheries. SFP works with companies to improve their understanding of marine conservation and fisheries science, sustainability demands in markets, and fisheries management and policy making processes. SFP helps convene companies to work together on procurement standards and implement “Fisheries Improvement Projects” (FIPs). In Russia, SFP is currently running projects on Russian Far East pollock, salmon and Barents Sea cod and haddock.
SFP is looking for a Russia Director to manage these projects and develop additional FIPs.
The Russia Director will:
- Convene FIP participants and build consensus around common procurement policies and improvement work plans (in some fisheries, the Director may be assisted by a part-time FIP Executive Secretary, responsible for the day-to-day running of an individual FIP);
- Hire and manage Russian and international consultants as necessary to provide critical technical fisheries management and policy advice;
- Strengthen working relations with key Russian catchers, seafood companies and NGOs;
- Liaise with Russian government regulators and research institutes;
- Prepare technical and other information to brief international buyers about the sustainability of Russian seafood;
- Work closely with SFP’s leaders in major markets to engage international suppliers in Russian FIPs;
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date information about Russian fisheries on FishSource.org.
The position requires a dynamic leader with extensive knowledge of the Russian seafood industry and fisheries management systems. The position requires fluency in English (written and spoken), ability to travel domestically and internationally and a minimum of 10 years experience in the seafood business sector or fisheries management or research agency. Ideally the candidate will have a post-graduate (M.Sc. or above) qualification in fisheries science and/or management.

Philippines Blue Swimming Crabs Fisheries Improvement Partnership (FIP) Coordinator
Background:
The mission of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership is to maintain healthy ocean ecosystems, enhance fishing livelihoods and secure food supplies. The Partnership improves access to information to guide responsible seafood sourcing, and enhances the ability of seafood companies and partners to influence government fisheries policies and management practices to improve fisheries.
SFP works to improve fisheries through Fisheries Improvement Partnerships (FIPs). A FIP is a collaboration between buyers, their suppliers, and NGO advisors that aims to influence government policies and management practices and improve marine conservation and the sustainability of an individual fishery. SFP and partners are launching FIPs for the Philippines Blue Swimming Crabs fisheries.
Role:
The SFP is looking for a high caliber individual to assist in running these FIPs and represent SFP on Blue Swimming Crabs fisheries. The position is expected to be based in the Philippines.
The job is to:
- Strengthen working relations with key local blue swimming crabs companies and NGOs;
- Forge agreements on what improvements are needed in the fishery,
work with the FIP members to develop policy briefs and advocacy strategies
implement agreed priority actions effectively and on time, and
provide briefings to SFP leadership for use in meeting buyers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years experience working in Blue Swimming Crabs, preferably in the Philippines
- Preferably has Bachelor degree in fisheries science and/or fisheries management
- Excellent oral and written English
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Ability to work in a flexible, informal environment, and to take the initiative and work as part of a team as well as independently.
- Willing to spend up to 30% of his/her time outside his/her home base
- Ability and willingness to travel by car and plane nationally and sometimes internationally to remote locations.
The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated leadership in improving fisheries management and marine conservation, and have good relations with the leading companies.

APRI (Indonesia Crab Processors Association) Executive Director
Job Description
The Indonesia Crab Processors Association (APRI) promotes the well being of the crab industry and takes action to ensure the sustainability of the crab fishery through collaboration with government, universities and NGOs. Its members represent over 80% of all crab exported. APRI is searching for an Executive Director to promote its policies, work with stakeholders, manage field projects and coordinate funding initiatives.
Job Title
Executive Director, Indonesia Crab Processors Association
Position reports to: APRI Board of Directors
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the Board to define the Association’s goals, timeline, operations and budget.
- Identify funding sources and coordinate applications.
- Work with government agencies to promote sustainable fishery policies, regulations and management.
- Develop and manage field projects to improve sustainability. Projects may include:
- Research and data collection on the crab fishery, population, ecology and habitat.
- Education and awareness programs to promote the concept of sustainability
- Trials to assess management techniques such as closed areas, gear modifications, and minimum harvest size
- Population enhancement using hatcheries, nurseries and broodstock sanctuaries.
- Collaborate with Sustainable Fisheries Partnership www.sustainablefish.org and local NGOs on sustainability initiatives.
- Coordinate with the U.S. Crab Council on sustainability programs
*Provide the Board with reports and recommendations on all activities.
Qualifications:
- A general knowledge of Indonesia fisheries, government agencies and NGOs
- University degree in a relevant subject
- Familiarity with funding proposals and grant management
- Proficient in English and Bahasa Indonesia
- Ability to work with minimum oversight and manage multiple activities
Preference will be given to candidates with experience with MMAF and environmental NGOs

European Projects Manager / NE Atlantic Fisheries Improvement Partnerships
Job Description
The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) works with leading buyers and producers of seafood to improve fisheries. SFP works with companies to improve their understanding of marine conservation and fisheries science, sustainability demands in markets, and fisheries management and policy making processes. SFP helps convene companies to work together on procurement standards and implement “Fisheries Improvement Projects” (FIPs). The position reports to SFP CEO and SFP European Director. Contract length is for 12 months with a possibility of extension. Level of effort is full time with a monthly rate to be determined based on experience.
SFP is looking for a European Projects manager to manage these projects and develop additional FIPs. The primary geographical focus will be Northern Europe / NE Atlantic fisheries and markets.
The position will engage retailers, food service, and suppliers in Fisheries and Aquaculture Improvement Projects (FIPs and AIPs), by providing strategic advice on sustainable sourcing policies and practices, delivering tools that put actionable information in the hands of individual buyers and decision-makers and build in-depth long-term partnerships with many of the leading buyers, markets and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Convene FIP participants and build consensus around common procurement policies and improvement work plans;
- Implement the agreed FIP work programmes; coordinate activities in agreed workplan, arrange and participate at relevant meetings, prepare prepare discussion documents etc.
- Hire and manage European and international consultants as necessary to provide critical technical fisheries management and policy advice;
Strengthen working relations with key European catchers, seafood companies and NGOs; - Liaise with EU and national institutions, research institutes;
- Prepare technical and other information to brief international buyers about the sustainability of European seafood;
- Work closely with SFP’s leaders in major markets to engage international suppliers in the relevant FIPs;
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date information about European fisheries on FishSource.org.
