Indonesia is the fourth largest blue swimming crab producer in the world, and the major source of imports to the United States. SFP discovered Phillips Seafood and others in the Indonesian industry were – at their own initiative – forming the Indonesian Crab Producers Association to address sustainability. The Association invited SFP to present on the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Fishery Improvement Partnerships, and discuss opportunities to enhance the sustainability of Indonesian blue crab fisheries. Discussions are on-going about how SFP can work together with Phillips and the Association.
