Aquaculture Improvement Projects (AIPs) have a focus on production zones, but the structural issues about aquaculture planning and management in any country need national dialogue. SFP supports and encourages local industry associations to engage national policy makers in developing and delivering effective zonal management to support the long-term sustainability of the industry. The establishment of multi-stakeholder dialogue processes, National Aquaculture Policy Platforms (NAPPs), is essential for the development of effective regulation, based on scientific evidence and supported by industry. Typically one of the first hurdles is the need to develop local scientific capacity to deliver appropriate science, like carrying capacity and epidemiology risk assessments.

SFP does not typically become involved in NAPPs, but given that such an approach to regulation is still relatively novel, we actively advocate for and can facilitate such processes, if necessary.
