Publix have been a partner with SFP since 2009 and they were an early adopter of the fishery improvement project (FIP) approach and played an active role in bringing key stakeholders to the table to get the Gulf of Mexico shrimp and snapper/grouper FIPs started. Publix also regularly convene all of their seafood suppliers to talk about sustainability. Kathryn Novak, SFP Buyer Engagement Division Director says, “Publix is the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the United States, and one of the 10 largest-volume supermarket chains in the country, so their commitment to sustainability serves as a strong example for other retail chains to follow." Publix was the first US supermarket to join the Ocean Disclosure Project (ODP) in 2017.
